A closing conference has been planned for the final stage of the “Government, Civil Society and Media Participation against Corruption” program. It was designed as a wrap-up of the initiative and a forum to present the successes and obstacles to the program implementation, as well as to discuss ways forward.
During the life-cycle of the program a number of NGOs and Media outlets have been identified as partners and stakeholders to this initiative. Three NGOs have implemented projects through EPF grant support aimed at increasing monitoring of civil society organization over government activities and spending. The projects have focused on watchdog activities in the spheres of civil service recruitment and attestation, road traffic and local governance. Additionally, four partner media outlets have received grant support to implement projects on anticorruption reporting and focused on freedom of information issues and transparent governance on the municipal level. The Conference was designed to bring together those parties for a summative discussion of the results achieved and lessons learned during the program implementation.
On December 15, 2008, EPF has hosted the planned meeting with an expanded agenda, which now targeted not only at the evaluation of the results but also at assessment and prognosis for possible future steps. The Conference took place in the Ball room of the Congress hotel, with the participation of more than one hundred people. The participants included representatives of diplomatic missions, international and donor organizations, state agencies, media outlets and civil society organizations.
