Yerevan, Armenia – On October 22-26, 2011, Yerevan hosted the 7th International Film Festival for Children and Youth, an annual event organized by the Armenian Foundation for Promotion of Cinema and TV for Children and Youth (“Rolan Bykov” Foundation), with support from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia as well as private companies, local and international organizations.
The Festival included 98 films from 35 countries and more than 35 participants from 15 countries. Upon completion of the Festival in Yerevan, screenings will continue for another 40 days in the regions of Armenia.
As part of the Festival, Rolan Bykov Foundation, in cooperation with a Turkish partner, Anadolu Kultur, supported professional exchange and cross-border projects between film and animation professionals from Armenia, Georgia, and Turkey. In addition to the three jury members representing Turkey, the Festival also hosted a select group of nine Armenian, Georgian and Turkish youth, three from each country, for a workshop on the techniques and culture of animation production. The workshop resulted in a short animation film to be premiered at the closing ceremony of the Festival, which will be held in Moscow Cinema on October 26, 2011, 7 p.m.
The participation of the Turkish youth and jury members in the 7th International Film Festival for Children and Youth has been supported through the USAID-funded “Support to Armenia-Turkey Rapprochement” project, which seeks to support Armenia-Turkey rapprochement by facilitating engagement between civil society groups, establishment and development of business partnerships and regional professional networks, and enhanced understanding between the people, for peace and economic integration in the region.
Ten young filmmakers from Armenia and Turkey participated in the Armenia-Turkey Cinema Platform (ATCP) workshop held in Istanbul on April 12-13, 2012 on the sidelines of the 31st Istanbul International Film Festival. The participating film projects, five per country, were handpicked by the ATCP pre-selection committee from among 35 applications.
