Yerevan, Armenia- Turkish violinist and music professor Cihat Aşkin, will perform at Komitas Chamber Music Hall at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 9. The concert is part of a cultural exchange between Armenia and Turkey organized by Eurasia Partnership Foundation, together with Orion Production Concert Promotion and Artist Management (Turkey) and the Komitas State Quartet NCSO (Armenia), and made possible by funding from USAID. As part of the exchange, first violinist of the Armenian Komitas Quartet Eduard Tadevosyan performed in Istanbul on November 25, 2008.
In Yerevan, Mr. Aşkin will perform pieces by European, Turkish and Armenian composers: Heinrich Ignaz von Biber’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano”, Grieg’s “Sonata No 3 for Violin and Piano”, Schumann’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano in a-moll, op.11,” Cihat Askin’s “Three Miniatures,” Arda Agosyan’s “Meditation”, Adnan Saygun’s’ “Sepetcioglu” and “Horon,” and Kemani Kevser Hanim’s “Nihavend Longa.” Mr. Aşkin will be accompanied by Gülden Teztel on piano.
Mr. Aşkin is an award-winning violinist, graduate of London Royal College of Music and City University, founder and first director of the Advanced Music Research Center (MIAM) in Istanbul, and Professor of Music at the Turkish State Music Conservatory. He uses a violin by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume (1946) in his concerts.
The two concerts are the continuation of a musical exchange between the Komitas State Quartet and their Turkish counterparts which began in 2002. “In recent years many Armenians and Turks cautiously move along the road of rapprochement. There is still a long distance to cover, but we believe music is something which will emphasize the universal human values and facilitate dialogue between the two nations.”, says Gevorg Ter-Gabrielyan, Eurasia Partnership Foundation Country Director in Armenia.
The Komitas Chamber Music Hall is located at 1 Isahakyan Street. Concert tickets are available free of charge from the Box Office of the Komitas Chamber Music Hall, as well as from the management of the Komitas Quartet, by phone at (091) 43-24-80.
