David Phillips presents Armenian translation of his book “Unsilencing the Past”

Yerevan, Armenia – Dr. David L. Phillips presented the Armenian translation of his book “Unsilencing the Past” on February 4 at Yerevan’s Ani Plaza Hotel. The translation was published by the International Center of Human Development and Eurasia Partnership Foundation with support from USAID. The book presents the experience and the lessons learned from the initiatives of Armenian-Turkish Track Two diplomacy in 2001-2004.
Dr. Phillips took questions following the presentation.

“It is important to make this book available to Armenian readers. It is the result of the author’s and his partners’ difficult work a few years ago building conceptual bridges between Armenians and Turks. It is also a rare example of the concepts of non-confrontational diplomacy, peace and reconciliation, concepts which may sound unusual to an Armenian reader. This book is a source of learning for new generations,” said Gevorg Ter-Gabrielyan, EPF’s country director.

Dr. Phillips led public diplomacy programs in Turkey and the Caucasus in 2001-2004 as the chairman of Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Committee. Currently he is an Associate professor of Political Science, conflicts prevention and peace building programs at New York University, as well as an Adjunct Research Scholar at the Center for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University. Dr. Philips has worked as senior advisor at the UN Secretariat and as external affairs expert and senior advisor at the US Department of State. He has authored a number of articles and books.

The presentation is part of Eurasia Partnership Foundation’s Armenia-Turkey Initiative which promotes improved dialogue and cooperation between representatives of the non-governmental, governmental and private sectors in Armenia and their Turkish counterparts.
