Sustainable Solutions: Armenia-Turkey Young Environmentalists Workshop

Yerevan, Armenia – The “Forum for 21st Century Leaders” NGO from Armenia along with its partner “The Earth Association” in Turkey organized a workshop in Aghveran, Armenia on May 28-30, 2012 that brought together 12 young environmentalists from a number of civic initiatives and organizations in Turkey and Armenia.

The 3-day program aimed at discussing the prospective of establishing continuous communication and cooperation between the involved Armenian and Turkish young experts/activists to address common environmental challenges and promote sustainable solutions at the national and international levels. The workshop concluded with follow-up planning and production of a joint policy brief to be presented/discussed within the Rio+20 NGO platform and other groups/events related to the Rio+20 Summit to be held on June 20-22, 2012. The policy brief is dedicated to the long-term cooperation between Armenian and Turkish environmental experts and civil society activists through establishment of a joint task force for discussing and developing cross-border environmental solutions.

Devin Bahceci, a participant from Turkey, mentioned: “We came together deeply motivated with the idea of voicing our message on sustainable future that we wished to create for our nations and future generations. We are determined to do our best and serve for this very compelling cause.”
