Caucasus Research Resource Centers-Armenia
The Caucasus Research Resource Centers (CRRC) -Armenia is part of CRRC program, a network of resource and training centers established in the capital cities of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia with the goal of strengthening social science research and public policy analysis in the South Caucasus.
The program aims to achieve three important outcomes:
- Strengthen the capacity of local social science researchers, academics and policy practitioners using innovative methods and new technologies
- Foster collaboration among academics, researchers and practitioners to promote public policy analysis and formulation, and create research communities
- Increase the access of high quality up-to-date resources for academics and practitioners to carry out professional research in their home countries
A partnership between the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Eurasia Partnership Foundation, and local universities (CRRC-Armenia is located at the Yerevan State University building) , the CRRC network offers scholars and practitioners stable opportunities for integrated research and training by providing resources, services and programs.
Library and IT LabCRRC host libraries that house a growing number of seminal works and current journals and periodicals in the social sciences. In addition, all three centers offer free access to IT labs equipped with high-speed Internet, major online social science journals, databases on economy and social development related to the South Caucasus, as well as a variety of international data sources.
Trainings, Lectures, Conferences and RoundtablesLocal and regional training courses, seminars and lectures are offered on a variety of social science topics, attracting both local and foreign experts. CRRC methodological training activities focus on modernizing the skill sets of local researchers and providing hands-on opportunities by using relevant statistical software packages. In addition, CRRC centers have experience hosting local, regional and international conferences, round tables and summer schools to discuss and debate key public policy issues, encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers and practitioners.
Data Initiative Project
A focus on providing and maintaining access to sound data is a priority for CRRC. Տhe centers have begun to collect data focusing on local and regional economies of the South Caucasus on an annual basis since 2004 to increase cross-comparison of regional social and economic dynamics. The surveys are carried out using comparable methodologies across all three countries of the South Caucasus.
The survey instruments (questionnaires), show cards, the detailed sampling methodology document, the survey databases (in SPSS format) and some preliminary findings are posted on the CRRC regional website at www.crrccenters.org
The Fellowship Program
The CRRC Fellowship Program was launched in 2004 to support outstanding researchers in the South Caucasus interested in pursuing original policy-oriented research. CRRC gives out grants to fellows to analyze policy relevant issues in economics, sociology, demography and other social science related fields. Since 2007, the Fellowship Program has been administered through an online learning platform called Moodle. The online platform allows applicants to learn while they apply.
CRRC Moodle and Blog
CRRC now uses Moodle to provide training while administering its Fellowship Program. CRRC also employs Moodle for managing research projects and for developing local core social science training modules in the region. To explore, CRRC's Moodle platform, click here. In November 2006, CRRC launched its regional blog. From Nairobi to Sydney and from Bishkek to Los Angeles, the blog now attracts readers worldwide by summarizing research on the South Caucasus.
